cfp (articles): Sound Stage Screen (Vol. 1, Spring 2021)

We are pleased to announce the launch of Sound Stage Screen (SSS), a new biannual peer-reviewed journal devoted to historical and theoretical research into the relations between sound, performance, and media. SSS will address a wide range of phenomena, practices, and objects pertaining to sound and music in light of the interconnections between performing traditions and media archaeologies: from opera to musical multimedia, and from cinema to interactive audio-visual platforms.

As an open-access journal hosted by the University of Milan (Italy), SSS aims to refocus musicology around the explosion of sound and media studies on the one hand, and the redrawing of the geographical and institutional boundaries under way in many arts disciplines on the other. The journal embraces the web format to stimulate and sustain the exploration of ways to restore a sense of the continuum that ties music making and research.

The journal is published twice a year in March and September, with the first issue scheduled for March 2021 (submission deadline: 1 September 2020). All original article submissions are double-blind peer reviewed. Manuscripts in English between 7000 and 10000 words are now being accepted, and can be submitted through the journal’s digital portal.

For more information on SSS, including its editorial board, aims, and guidelines for submission, visit the website: https://riviste.unimi.it/index.php/sss
