The Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology at Indiana University invites applications for a one year position as Visiting Lecturer in ethnomusicology to begin in Fall of 2013, with the possibility of an extension to a second year. Preference will be given to applicants with a specialization in the musics of Africa or the African Diaspora. We will also consider applicants with other specializations that complement our faculty’s current research. Candidates should be broadly conversant with the theoretical and conceptual aspects of ethnomusicology.

The Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology is a top-ranked, innovative, interdisciplinary center for the study of music and culture in global contexts, which offers BA, MA and PhD degrees. The department has a full-time teaching faculty of 16 folklorists and ethnomusicologists, and a graduate and undergraduate student population of over 200 students.

Applicants must have completed their PhD in ethnomusicology or a related field by the date of appointment, and have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching.
