The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Musicology and
Media Studies, invites applications for a
Full Professorship for Popular Music Studies (W3)
to be filled as soon as possible.
We are seeking a highly visible academic in the field of Popular Music Studies. Research expertise shouldengage and elaborate the grid made up of technical, socio-cultural, aesthetic and economic factors on which Popular Music can be positioned. The specificity of auditory objects and their appropriation against the background of processes which involve Popular Music are of particular relevance. Teaching should address the topic of Popular Music Studies across a wide range of methods and perspectives. Conceptually and methodologically, this professorship should engage the interface of musicology, media theory and sound studies with respect to new disciplinary cultures emerging at Humboldt University.
The future holder of the position should have written a dissertation and should have provided additional research in the field of “Popular Music Studies”, her/his publications should be widely visible within the international community. Requirements for a successful application are: command of the relevant methods, didactic qualification, readiness to take part in the academic self-government, ability to teach appropriate courses in the BA- and MA-program at the Department of Musicology and Media Studies (http://www.muwi.hu-berlin.de/).
The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 100 of the “Berliner Hochschulgesetz”.
