Billy Joel Conference

“It’s Still Rock And Roll To Me”: The Music and Lyrics of Billy Joel — A Public Musicology Conference
7-8 October 2016
Colorado College, Colorado Springs, CO

“It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me” is a scholarly symposium on the music and lyrics of Billy Joel, the consummate singer-songwriter whose compositions translate larger cultural concerns into accessible and compelling musical narratives. In the spirit of Joel’s music, this public musicology conference aims to share academically oriented insights on this popular figure and his output in an accessible and approachable manner. The proceedings will include papers, roundtables, an exhibition, a film screening, a concert, and a live phone interview with Billy Joel.

Complete program and registration information is available at: http://ColoradoCollege.edu/BillyJoel. Registration will be available September 1-30 and is capped at 450 attendees.

Thanks to the generosity of the American Musicological Society, a limited number of travel grants are available for graduate students. For application information, please visit: http://ColoradoCollege.edu/BillyJoel.

In an effort to make the conference as accessible as possible, those unable to attend in person will have the opportunity to view a live stream. Please click “interested” on our Facebook events page, which will host the stream, for future updates.
