“Music in Canada” Colloquium
Faculty of Music, York University
26 April 2014

The Graduate Music Student Association (GMSA) of York is pleased to announce a call for papers for our first Music Graduate Colloquium taking place Saturday 26 April 2014 at York University.

Music in Canada continues to reflect the landscape and heterogeneous influences that have shaped the country. It has subsequently been influenced by American culture due to its proximity and migration between the two countries. Canada’s music industry has produced internationally renowned artists and has developed a music infrastructure that includes church halls, chamber halls, conservatories, academies, performing arts centers, record companies, radio stations, and television music video channels.

With emphasis on music in Canada, we welcome abstracts (300 words) in any area of Canadian music research including but not limited to ethnomusicology, music theory, musicology, music education, music technology, sound recording, music psychology, performance and composition.

Papers, lecture recitals, improvisations, and art music installations are encouraged.
