As provided in the IASPM Statues (9.1, 9.5) and its Rules of Procedure (2.1.5), the International Association for the Study of Popular Music welcomes nominations from members wishing to serve on the next Executive Committee elected at the General Meeting of members convened at the 2009 conference held at the Institute of Popular Music, University of Liverpool.

IASPM Executive Position Descriptions

Chair

The Chair oversees all administrative and governance matters and works closely with national branches to realise the organization’s aims and policies, and represents IASPM in interaction with other music and cultural organizations. The Chair convenes the General Meeting every two years at the international conference, including the presentation of a report of general activities and issues. She/he should be familiar with the IASPM regulations and statutes governing the organization’s procedures.

General Secretary

The General Secretary participates in the maintenance and revision of the organization’s statutes, rules of procedure and membership fees, including election procedures. The position also involves the presentation of a report of general activities and issues at the General Meeting every two years at the international conference. The General Secretary should be familiar with the IASPM regulations and statutes governing the organization’s procedures.

Membership Secretary/Treasurer

The Membership Secretary / Treasurer liaises closely with the chairs of national branches in regards to membership subscriptions. She/he should be familiar with international banking procedures related to international funds transfers and possess excellent skills in maintaining organizational budgets. The position also involves the presentation of financial and membership statements at the General Meeting every two years at the international conference. The Membership Secretary / Treasurer should possess experience with databases, as the position will also involve liaising with the Web/Publications executive member in constructing and maintaining the organization’s bibliographic database.

Web/Publications

The Web / Publications executive member is primarily involved in the maintenance of the international web site; the production of the international conference proceedings; and the organisation of books for review by and from members. This position will also involve liaising with the Membership Secretary / Treasurer in constructing and maintaining the organization’s bibliographic database. The Web/Publications member should possess excellent skills in the construction and maintenance of web sites.

Member at Large

The Member at Large is involved in a range of activities, including preparation of the international conference, and production of the international, online journal. The position also includes liaising with national branches in ensuring that all regions are represented. The Member at Large should be familiar with the structure of IASPM and issues relating to its diverse, international membership.
